BEAVERTON After some weatherinduced false starts, the track season finally got underway last Wednesday for Beaverton as the boys’ and girls’ teams hosted Jack Pine Conference rivals Farwell and Clare. Clare’s deep talented teams were way ahead of the competition.

GLADWIN The Gladwin golf team opened the season on April 15 by shooting a team score of 165 to knock off Clare, Shepherd and Mt. Pleasant Sacred Heart at Sugar Springs.

Gladwin baseball team wins four of six games in three days

FREELAND Playing six games in three days finally took a toll on the Gladwin baseball team in the final game of a tournament at Freeland Saturday. The Flying G’s beat the home team 10-2 in the first game to make it four wins and a tie during the grueling stretch, but then came up empty in a 16-1 loss to Alpena.

Gladwin girls’ track team wins JPC dual meet debut

SANFORD The starter’s pistol has gone off to begin the race for the Jack Pine Conference championship and the Gladwin girls’ track team is off and running after last Wednesday’s 99-37 victory at Meridian. Just keep in mind, this is more of a marathon than a sprint.

Beavers fall to Tawas to miss shot at tourney title

BEAVERTON Big hits and drama carried the Beaverton softball team to a pair of victories at the Dar Grove Invitational Saturday, but both were in short supply in the final game of pool play when Tawas topped the home team 8-3. The Beavers racked up 17 hits in an 11-3 victory over Lakeview in the first game, then beat Reese 8-7 in walk-off fashion, but fell behind the Braves 8-0 and never recovered.

Gladwin boys run off with another invitational title

CADILLAC After winning the Freeland Invitational by just one point the week before, the Gladwin boys’ track team took no chances Friday, running away with the title at the Rathbun Invitational on Friday with 148.5 points. Host Cadillac was second with 114 and Petoskey third with 111.

GJHS Track starts season

GLADWIN The Gladwin Junior High Track teams faced off against Meridian Farewell and Harrison schools in their very first track meet of the year. The Gladwin boys recorded many top five overall finishes in both races and events.

Mid’s Women’s Basketball Team completes successful season

HARRISON Mid Michigan College’s Women’s Basketball Team entered the 20232024 season hoping to build on their prior success. In the 20222023 season, led by first-year Coach Lance Maney, the team achieved a record of 28-6 while capturing a Northern Conference Championship, a Great Lakes District Championship, and a bid to the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) National Tournament.
