BEAVERTON Registrations are now being accepted for the 30th annual Beaverton Area Business Association (BABA) Golf Tournament, which is slated for Wednesday, June 12. The tournament starts at 8:30 a.m.

SHEPHERD Whether the game was a blowout or down to the wire, the Beaverton baseball team had the answers Thursday in a doubleheader sweep at Shepherd that gave the Beavers a 4-0 record in Jack Pine Conference games last week. The visitors won the first game 15-3 with Landon Love taking the spotlight.

SHEPHERD 48-year-old Gladwin school record is history. ACaleb Palmreuter ran a 9:15 in the 3,200 meters at the Blue Jay Invitational at Shepherd Friday to smash a record that was set in 1976 by 20 seconds.

Kayla Newman’s bat was a weapon of mass destruction last Tuesday when the Beaverton softball team swept a high-scoring doubleheader from visiting Farwell. Newman went 9-for-9 in the two games, hitting for the cycle in the first and homering in both.

SANFORD Despite winning just five of the 17 events at the Nite Trax Invitational Friday at Meridian, the Gladwin girls’ track team flashed depth up and down the lineup and ran away with the team championship with 176.5 points. Saginaw Valley Lutheran was a distant second with 106, followed by host Meridian with 90, Saginaw Swan Valley with 84, Midland Bullock Creek with 79, Standish with 69 and Farwell with 35.5.

CLARE First it was easy and then it was definitely not for the Gladwin baseball team in a pair of Jack Pine Conference doubleheaders last week. The Flying G’s blew by Harrison on Tuesday, but ran into league leader Clare on Thursday and lost two games.

CLARE Liz Winchester hit a home run in the fourth inning, but Tessa Cameron had the only other hit as the Gladwin softball team dropped the first game of a doubleheader 4-1 Thursday at Clare. The Jack Pine Conference leading Pioneers then won the second game 16-6.

GLADWIN The 9 a.m. Wednesday Morning “Fellas” Golf League at Lakeside Golf Course is welcoming new players.

GLADWIN COUNTY The Church Softball League is looking for singles or teams to play this summer on a co-ed team. They play on Monday nights at the Gladwin Softball Complex, 6:30 p.m., with prayer at 6:25 p.m.

GLADWIN Treyton Siegert shot a 71 to finish as the top individual and help the Gladwin golf team place fourth at a 22-team invitational at West Branch Country Club Thursday. The Flying G’s will be back in action Monday at Pinconning..
